Any Injuries
It is extremely important that you always check yourself and your passengers for injuries after any collision. You should immediately check for injuries and call 911 if necessary. Once you have made sure that there are no injuries, you should talk to the other driver to make sure that there were no injuries on their side either.
Alignment Issues
After a rear end collision, oftentimes there will only be a small amount of visible damage. However, your vehicle could have been damaged in places that you cannot see, such as your alignment. You should always check your alignment after a collision to ensure that nothing has been tweaked. If you notice that your alignment is off, you should take your vehicle into an auto body shop to have checked out. A body shop can easily fix any alignment issues that you have. If you do not get your alignment fixed, your steering wheel will become off centered and you will wear your tires down much quicker than you otherwise would.
Electrical Issues
If your vehicle has been involved in a rear end collision, there is a good chance that some wires could have been knocked loose. If you do not get these wires fixed your vehicle could run into a variety of issues. A collision like this can easily knock your taillights loose making other drivers unaware of your stops. This type of collision could also knock internal wirings loose that control electrical systems in your vehicle such as your battery. You should have a body shop check your vehicle out for any electrical damage after a rear end collision to ensure that no wires have been knocked out of place. If you do not get these issues checked out by a professional, you run the risks of electrical systems failing. These loose wires can easily fall out after a collision while driving normally, causing systems to fail. The last thing you want is for your battery to lose power while you are out of the house. If you are involved in a rear end collision, make sure to have your vehicle inspected by a body shop immediately.
Engine Damage
If you have been involved in a rear end collision, there is always the possibility of running into engine damage. Today’s engines are extremely delicate, meaning that even a small tap from another vehicle can knock parts out of place. This damage is extremely important to have fixed but can be extremely hard to identify. If your vehicle gives any signs that there could be engine damage after a collision, you should get it repaired immediately. Take time to look over your vehicle after a rear end collision and ensure that there is no damage to your vehicle’s engine before returning to your normal daily driving.
Trunk Damage
Obviously after a rear end collision, there could be damage to your trunk. If your trunk has been damaged in the collision you will want to get it fixed as soon as possible. While damage to your trunk may not impact your overall ability to drive, it can greatly impact your vehicle’s resale value. If your trunk has been damaged in any way you should take it to your local body shop to have it repaired. While your trunk may not seem too important to your vehicle, it will create a pain when you need storage space or go to resell your vehicle. Take your vehicle into a body shop as soon as you can if you notice any trunk damage after a rear end collision.
