Depending on what caused your auto body shop visit, your insurance will cover the damage done to your car. If you are visiting the body shop for normal work like an oil change or part change then your insurance will not cover you. However, if you are in the body shop because of a sudden event then it will. Here are some situations where your insurance will or won’t cover your repairs.
Car Accident
If you have been involved in a car accident and need to have your car repaired, your insurance will usually cover the cost. If you did not cause the wreck, you will almost always have the costs covered by insurance, but if you did cause the wreck, you may not. If you have only purchased liability insurance, then your vehicle will not be covered in a wreck, but the other driver’s repair will be. If you have an upgraded insurance plan and chose to purchase coverage for your vehicle then you will have coverage in the event of a wreck. In either scenario your insurance will most likely see an increase, leaving you with a higher bill. Body shop repairs for accidents can be extremely expensive, which is why it is important to always have insurance that will cover your car in the event of an accident.
Hail Damage
In most scenarios, your insurance will cover your vehicle if it requires repairs because of a hailstorm. If your car is left covered in dents because of a hailstorm, you should be able to receive body work that is covered so that you can get your car back to looking normal again. Hail can seriously damage a car’s body, leaving huge dents wherever the hail has struck. If your car has sustained hail damage, then you should take it into your local body shop to be repaired by professionals. Hailstorms devastate vehicles and will leave your monthly bill higher than it was before the storm. If you can, you should take every necessary precaution to protect yourself and your vehicle from as much hail damage as possible.
Vandalism
If your vehicle has been vandalized, you will almost always be covered by your insurance provider. Unlike many other types of claims, a vandalism claim should not raise your insurance rates. Due to it being outside of the owner’s control, an insurance company will usually abstain from raising rates because of vandalism claims. If your vehicle has been vandalized and needs repairs, make sure to take it into the body shop today. When taking it into the body shop, you also need to file a claim with your insurance company to ensure that your car will be covered.
Scratches and Dents
If your car needs to be repaired because of normal scratches and dents, your insurance will not cover the costs. Many times, you will need to pay for these repairs on your own. While they can become expensive, your insurance will not cover these repairs. Even though your insurance company will not cover these damages, you should still have your car repaired so that you can restore your car’s look. Leaving damage like this on your car can allow for the damage to grow into larger problems as rust begins to build up and paint begins to fall off.
Oil Changes
An oil change will not be covered by your insurance provider. Oil changes are done on a regular basis and insurance companies do not see the need to cover them. Even though you will not be covered by insurance while getting an oil change, you should still make sure to have it changed. Going to long without a change can ruin your vehicle, leaving it in the body shop for weeks.
